Artist Bio:
lacrush started in 2016 in Berlin as a self-taught music duo, using a loop station and a keyboard from the street. Their friendship is older than the band itself, and this bond shapes their unmistakable sound – raw, emotional, and unfiltered. Their music explores the relationship between inner and outer worlds, the right in the wrong, and the large in the small. Musically, they navigate the intersection between catchy pop and a rough, experimental electronic sound. In addition to synthesizers and harmonized vocals, drummer Leonie Sobek now adds depth to their sound with analog drums.

The EP Heartbeat – whose poetic beginnings lie in the confusion of the first Corona lockdown – is an unflinching exploration of emotional turmoil, self-empowerment and the complexity of personal growth. The EP takes you on a transformative journey, guided by a heartbeat you can feel in every note.
An introspective, spherical Intro segues into the pulsating, raw energy of the eponymous song Heartbeat. Here, lacrush opens the stage for a rebellion – against the expectations of capitalism, against conformity. It challenges the status quo and celebrates emotional liberation and the strength of solidarity. This is followed by the catchy, infectious single Solo, which explores personal struggles to regain autonomy and heal past wounds. While Second Skin – the album’s driving ballad – deals with the failure of love and the tension between intimacy and independence, Bit my Tongue describes the letting through of grief as a liberating act with vulnerable, raw clarity.
The fiery, playful single Slut gives Heartbeat a succinct ending and leads back to the rebellious, political opening of the EP. Slut deals with sexualized violence and tells of the process of reappropriating one’s own pleasure. The song rebels against widespread narratives that glorify experienced violence as a self-inflicted consequence of “sloppy” behavior and thus brings us back to the socio-political dimension of our emotional abysses.
